Overview

The vessel MV MAGIC TOO underwent a comprehensive drydocking procedure at our facility over the period from August 2, 2022, to August 24, 2022. The project involved a wide range of maintenance, repair, and refurbishment activities aimed at ensuring the vessel’s structural integrity, operational efficiency, and overall seaworthiness. Below is an expanded overview of the key works executed during the drydocking period

Hull Maintenance and Painting

High-Pressure Washing

The hull of the vessel was thoroughly cleaned using a high-pressure washer with a force of 4500 psi, focusing on the area from the draught mark to the keel. A total of 372.57 square meters of the hull was treated to remove any marine growth, dirt, and debris, ensuring a clean surface for further maintenance

Sand Sweeping and Blasting

The hull was then sand-swept from the draught mark to the keel, which included blasting all corroded areas to a cleanliness level of SA 1.0. This process helped remove surface rust and prepared the hull for painting

Painting

A total of three coats of protective paint were applied to the hull from the draught mark to the keel, covering an area of 372.57 square meters per coat, resulting in a cumulative coverage of 1,117.71 square meters. This protective coating is essential for preventing future corrosion and maintaining the vessel’s appearance. The white band above the waterline around the hull was repainted to restore the vessel’s visual appeal and meet regulatory standards

Deck and Sea Chest Maintenance

Deck Maintenance

The wooden deck boards were removed and pressure washed to remove accumulated grime, ensuring the deck was clean and safe for crew operations

Bilge and Tank Cleaning

The bilge areas within the engine room, pump room, generator room, and rudder room were meticulously cleaned. This included the removal of any oil, sludge, or contaminants, which is critical for maintaining the vessel’s safety and efficiency. The fuel tanks were also cleaned to ensure the purity of the fuel and the proper functioning of the engine and related systems

Mechanical and Machining Work

Sea Chest Valves Servicing

Four sea chest valves were serviced to ensure the proper intake of seawater, which is essential for cooling and other onboard systems

Propeller and Shaft Maintenance

All four propellers were removed, pressure washed, and replaced. The propeller shafts were also removed, checked for alignment, polished, and replaced along with the cutless bearings. This work is vital for the smooth operation of the vessel’s propulsion system. The rudder blades and stocks on both the port and starboard sides were removed, inspected, repaired, and reinstalled

Machining of Components

  • The propeller shafts were checked for alignment, polished, and had their threaded areas cleaned. Damaged areas on the nuts were machined and rethreaded to fit securely on the shafts. Additionally, the packing areas on three of the shafts were welded and machined.
  • Damaged areas on three propellers were heated, straightened, welded, ground, and polished according to instructions.
  • Threaded areas on two rudder shafts were cleaned, and damaged areas on the corresponding nuts were machined and rethreaded to ensure a secure fit.
  • Eight cutless bushings were machined to fit into the propeller shaft housing, ensuring the proper operation of the shaft system.
  • Two bronze spacers were manufactured to fit the rudder shaft and arms according to specifications.
  • A worn bronze screw was fabricated as per the given instructions.
  • Four cutless bushings were cut and machined to fit into the rudder stock housing

Welding and Fabrication

Hull Plating Repairs

A total of 181 square feet of steel plate was cropped and replaced on the hull of the vessel, with 90.5 square meters repaired on both the port and starboard sides using 12 mm thick steel plates. This work was essential for maintaining the structural integrity of the hull

Keel Cooler Pipes Replacement

Twelve feet of keel cooler pipes were cropped and replaced on both the port and starboard sides to ensure efficient cooling of the vessel’s engine and related systems

Exhaust Pipe Repairs

The vessel’s exhaust pipe was repaired using a 44” x 26” x 4.78 mm steel plate, which involved welding and fabricating the necessary components to restore the pipe to optimal condition
