Project Highlights– Hull Maintenance

Proper hull maintenance is vital for reducing drag, improving fuel efficiency, and ensuring smooth navigation. For the MV Solfjord, we carried out the following tasks:

• Scraping and Pressure Washing: We removed marine growth and residues from the hull, from the waterline to the keel. This restored the vessel’s clean, streamlined surface, which improves its hydrodynamic performance.
• Sandblasting: We sandblasted corroded areas to SA 1.0 and SA 2.5 standards. This prepared the surface for coatings and prevented further corrosion, contributing to the vessel’s overall durability.

These steps not only improve the vessel’s performance but also extend its operational life.

Protective Coatings

Protective coatings are critical for shielding vessels from the harsh marine environment. Without these coatings, corrosion, fouling, and wear would increase maintenance costs, reduce fuel efficiency, and pose safety risks.

For the MV Solfjord, we applied a tailored multi-layer coating system. This included:

• Primer Coats: These formed a strong bond with the hull, providing corrosion resistance.
• Anti-Fouling Coats: We applied these to the underwater hull to prevent algae and barnacle buildup. This reduces drag and improves fuel efficiency.

We recommend:

• Two primer coats to ensure a strong foundation against corrosion.

Additionally, we repainted essential navigational markings such as draft marks, Plimsoll lines, and the IMO number. This ensures regulatory compliance and enhances operational visibility.

Marine Fittings Upgrades

• Serviced Components: We disassembled, serviced, and reassembled key parts, such as the bow thruster grills, sea chest grills, and valves.
• Polished Propellers: We polished both the main and bow thruster propellers. This enhanced hydrodynamic efficiency, reducing energy consumption and lowering operational costs.

Structural Repairs
